Local 512 Townhall on CAPE’s new Dues Formula

We’re entering into tough times as public servants. The government has committed to budget cuts and workforce adjustment. In addition, we’re in for a difficult round of bargaining in 2026.

CAPE’s current dues formula is a flat rate and not indexed to inflation. Dues have not been updated since 2014, meaning that the value has been eaten away by over 30% cumulative inflation over these years. This is financially unsustainable. Unless changed, the current dues model poses a risk to CAPE’s long-term operations and removes the ability to do more.

Right now, we’re all getting organized to fight to win on key issues – issues like telework, wages that keep pace with inflation, expanded accommodations, and better career advancement opportunities.

To take on the biggest employer in the country, we need to have the resources necessary to invest in fighting to win.

At the meeting, CAPE President Nathan Prier will present the upcoming budget, CAPE’s recent accomplishments, and what a change will to the dues formula will achieve.

We want to hear from you! Bring your questions and come find out more about the proposal to fix CAPE’s dues formula, expand services, and build the power to win more in bargaining.
