President's message - National Public Service Week 2025

National Public Service Week is a time to recognize the commitment, talent and resilience of the people who work in the federal public sector. You show up every day to make a difference in the lives of people across this country, often while being underappreciated and overworked.

You have delivered for Canadians during moments of crisis – whether it was responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, or the ongoing trade war. What has consistently been missing is the recognition and respect you deserve.

Know that you are making a fundamental difference in the lives of people across the country – as well as to Canada itself. At a time when our economy and our national sovereignty are under threat, a strong federal public sector is one of our most important forms of national defence.

The new government has made big, nation-building promises. A public sector that attracts top talent and invests in its people will be critical to help realize them.

We know from the experience of the last few years that we can’t rely on our boss to do the right thing. We can, and we must, rely on each other and the collective strength we can wield. That’s how workers will win on the issues that matter most. Get into your organizing committees – or start one if you don’t have one – and let’s keep building capacity to fight to win the things we deserve.

Canadians, whether they realize it or not, are better off because of the commitments you deliver on every single day.

In solidarity with all of you,

Nate Prier
