Justice for Joyce Echaquan

Joyce Echaquan

Following the tragic death of Joyce Echaquan in Joliette last month, CAPE would like to offer our deep condolences to her family, the Atikamekw community, and all Indigenous Peoples and communities.

We condemn the inhumane treatment she suffered in the last hours of her life and demand that justice be served. Her death is a stark reminder of the enduring systemic racism against Indigenous people and it reveals our collective failure to stop it.

CAPE is an ally in the fight against all forms of racism and racial discrimination, and we call for Indigenous lives and rights to be protected, respected and honoured. To achieve reconciliation, we must live up to our commitments.

As a federal union with members from the Indigenous community, we stand with them, we share their grief, and we demand concrete changes from our government.
