2015: A time for collective solidarity

My name is Emmanuelle Tremblay, and I am very honoured to have become President of the Canadian Association of Professional Employees on January 1, 2015.

At a time when the federal public service is constantly being attacked and bashed by government ministers and MPs, however, the honour of leading such an important public service union must come with a great deal of lucidity and determination.

Lucidity is required to meet the challenges that lie ahead in the coming months, particularly with respect to collective bargaining for the EC, TR and Library of Parliament groups. Key issues at the first two groups’ bargaining tables include sick leave, changes to the disability insurance system, terms and conditions of employment, and even the role of the public service in Canadian society. Meanwhile, for analysts at the Library of Parliament, preparations are underway for the forthcoming arbitration process.
