STOP THE CUTS IN HEALTHCARE
Carney’s cuts have sliced deeply into federal health programs, affecting CAPE members and the important work that they do at the Public Health Agency of Canada, Health Canada, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. CAPE is advocating to Stop the Cuts to health programs and to free up money to pay for these cuts by granting remote work rights to public sector workers, allowing the government to reduce expensive and unneeded office space.
You already know that provincial health systems are struggling with increasingly complex health needs without sufficient funding to keep up with these realities. Provincial health systems have been backstopped by numerous federal programs, including ones focused on health promotion and chronic disease prevention, consumer product and food safety, and essential health coverage for refugees, all of which have been reduced or cut.
You can add your voice to CAPE’s call to Stop the Cuts by using remote work savings to reinvest in federal programs. Sign the petition here to support fully public, accessible healthcare for all Canadians and remote work for public sector workers like you!
LABOUR DAY EVENTS
This Labour Day, join CAPE members and workers across the country as we come together for fair wages, secure jobs and respect at work. With return-to-office in full effect, workforce adjustments underway across the federal public service and bargaining ahead this winter, showing our collective strength matters more than ever.
If you attend an event, be sure to introduce yourself to workers from other locals and unions and learn more about the issues they are organizing around.
NCR Labour Day March and Picnic:
In Ottawa, meet the CAPE delegation at City Hall at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7. The march leaves at noon for a free, family-friendly picnic at McNabb Park.
NCR Movie Day with CAPE Locals:
Join your CAPE Locals for a free screening of Chicken Run at the Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa on Saturday, September 5. See more details and RSVP.

You can also:
- Contact your local executive to find out what is happening in your area — or whether other CAPE members want to attend an event together.
- Check the website or social media accounts of your local labour council or provincial or territorial federation of labour.
- Talk to PSAC and PIPSC members in your workplace about what they are attending and make plans to join them.
This is also a good time to talk to your PSAC and PIPSC counterparts about what is at stake and how you can support one another in bargaining. The employer is counting on federal public service workers being divided. Building connections across CAPE locals and with members of other unions helps us support one another—and build more power at the bargaining table.
OTTAWA-GATINEAU CLIMATE MARCH AND PETITION

Join fellow CAPE members and the Ottawa-Gatineau community on September 19 as we gather to send a message to Mark Carney: Stop the Burning – Defend our Climate!
This year we’ve seen forest fires devastate communities in Northern Ontario and British Columbia, a once-in-a-century Canada Day rainstorm in Ottawa, and multiple extreme heat days. With Carney’s cuts to environmental programs in departments like ECCC, NRCan and more, now is the time to demand he make a priority.
Gather from 9:30 am for the march, which departs at 10 am from Jacques Cartier Park in Gatineau. For those wishing to join the march on the Ottawa side, meet at the top of the steps on Mackenzie Ave (at York Street) at 10:30 am. The march will pass by Mark Carney’s office before ending at Ottawa City Hall (100 Laurier Ave W). All are welcome.

Mark your calendar! CAPE’s 2026 Annual General Meeting is coming up in November.
Like last year, the AGM will be a full-day event. It will take place on Sunday, November 15 at the Delta Hotel in Ottawa. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format, allowing for in-person and virtual attendance.
