Position Summary 

Under the direction of the Senior Advisor, President’s office, the Digital Organizer will create and manage CAPE’s overarching digital strategy and infrastructure to support member organizing. They will work collaboratively and coordinate with other divisions, key staff, and multidisciplinary teams across CAPE to help embed digital engagement strategy, data-driven best practices, analytics and tools for building a successful organizing model and running a successful network of leaders and organizers.

The Digital Organizer will work collaboratively with the Organizing, Communications and Public Affairs, and IT/IM teams to help boost and maintain active membership at all levels of the association through the design and implementation of a robust data and analytics program, as well as the maintenance of various digital tools and channels.

The Digital Organizer will leverage a combination of interpersonal skills, strategic thinking and planning, and knowledge of labour laws to engage and increase participation with members and allies online and offline. As a subject matter specialist, they will provide expert advice to the Senior Advisor and President, helping to shape CAPE’s organizing strategic direction.

Requirements 

Education & Experience

  • 7-10 years of experience providing digital, social and multimedia communications in service of member engagement, unionization drives, projects and research and analysis services to senior executives of either a union, not-for-profit organization, federal government agency or department or other similar organizations.
  • 7-10 years of experience in digital organizing and communications for unions environment, with expertise related to the scope of work undertaken by CAPE.
  • 7-10 years of experience supervising a constituent data management program that provides infrastructure and services across multiple departments, including organizing software, data analysis, list hygiene, taxonomy creation, and database management.
  • College diploma or undergraduate degree in communications, public affairs, digital marketing, or any related discipline.

Note: Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience are considered.

Key responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Senior Advisor, designs and oversees the strategy and execution of software and platforms and automations to support the organizing team in identifying, recruiting, engaging, and training members.
  • Works with the Organizing and IT/Data Teams to create an effective and efficient online-to-offline member engagement pipeline, and ensure digital documentation is up-to-date.
  • In collaboration with the Digital Communications Advisor, creates digital output plans that increase organizing outcomes and that utilize digital tools as appropriate, including but not limited to SMS, mass email, advertising, social media, and websites.
  • Directly supports members, member leaders, and locals to engage in organizing through managing CAPE’s digital and data member engagement infrastructure:
    • Create and execute online digital organizing programs including Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and online member community facilitation.
    • Maintenance of admin and organizer Action Network and Action Builder manuals, as well as the tagging taxonomy.
    • Train staff and members on digital member engagement tools (including Action Network, Action Builder, CallHub, Hustle/GetThru) and         best practices as needed.
    • Advise on and build automations as needed.
  • Create a quantitative and qualitative member-centered data, testing, and analytics program for CAPE to evaluate progress towards member engagement goals and offer data-driven recommendations to optimize future digital member engagement for the creation of a healthy and thriving network of organizers and leaders.
    • Build real time data dashboards.
    • Create a social listening program to inform content creation.
    • Give quarterly reports on member engagement performance.
  • Work with the Communications Team to integrate a unified approach and content calendar for digital member engagement projects and campaigns while ensuring digital content is user-friendly, up-to-date, bilingual, accessible, and aligned with communication and organizing strategies.
  • Coordinate with the Communications and IT Teams on segmentation and metrics of member engagement.
  • Work through the Digital Communications Advisor to create SEO-optimized content or address any technical issues or errors.
  • For the purposes of boosting member engagement, stay current with industry trends and best practices in digital marketing, and web development by building a social listening program.
  • Assist with various multi-disciplinary teams, projects, and events, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, quality standards, and deadlines.
  • Ensures that CAPE’s labour action and organizing initiatives follow all legal requirements and regulations related to labour organizing, including compliance with the guidelines set by the constitution and by-laws of the association.

  • Ability to develop goals, objectives, and plans and to ensure their implementation.
  • Staff management and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Ability to oversee digital and data protocols and standards for data integrity, data quality, data hygiene, constituent flags, and overall data management.
  • Ability to manage existing codes, fields and key constituent segment definition and coordinate the creation of new values and fields when needed to meet evolving strategies.
  • Experience in developing high-quality online properties and expert knowledge of graphic and web design principles, as well as a good understanding of current web technologies.
  • Familiarity with various CMSs, various CRMs, SMS software, live streaming, basic video editing, basic graphic design, and digital ads.
  • Can work without supervision, with tight deadlines and under pressure.
  • Political acumen, analytical thinking, effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage staff and multiple projects, effectively.
  • Proficient in the principles and practices of writing copy for communications, public affairs, digital marketing, outreach, and other materials used by the Association.
  • Ability to write for different audiences and different products and remain neutral in serving CAPE’s elected officers, staff, and members, in what can be a charged atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of union protocol to develop and maintain effective contacts and coordinate efforts with other unions, and of union principles and values.
