Nathan Prier has held the position of president of the Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE) since January 2024. In this role, Nathan has committed to delivering higher levels of member participation, increasing transparency, improving member accessibility to information and decision-making processes, and enhancing CAPE’s strategic focus to secure better gains for members.

Over the last three years he served as vice-president and president of CAPE Local 508 at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, where he was a senior economist. In 2023, Nathan helped found the Solidarity Caucus — a rank-and-file caucus aimed at building up collective power across departments and with other unions. He is also a member of Members for Change, a team of candidates who ran and were elected for various positions in the 2023 CAPE election.

His experience before joining the federal public sector includes work as an urban and transportation planner for the Government of Ontario, as an adjunct professor at York University’s Glendon College, and as an analyst for various nonprofits.

Nathan has been organizing in the labour movement and across a number of social movements — immigrant rights, indigenous solidarity, universal childcare, 2SLGBTQI+ liberation, and more — for more than 20 years. He holds a Master of Arts from York University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University.

Nathan is the proud father of two children. He is also an active member of the Vanier community where he lives with his family in Ottawa.
