Position Summary 
The Translation and Revision Officer provides in-house translation services (mainly English to French) and ensures the quality of French content through copyediting of both internally produced texts and external translations. They help maintain CAPE’s high linguistic standards in both official languages across all publications.

Requirements 

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in translation.
  • 4 to 7 years of translation and editing experience, preferably in NGOs, interest groups, government bodies, or union.
  • Note: Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience are considered.

Key responsibilities

  • Translate a wide range of documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) in administrative, technical, financial, and marketing fields, primarily from English to French, and occasionally from French to English, while delivering high-quality translations for complex or high-visibility texts.
  • Ensure that translated texts accurately reflect the original meaning, context, and tone.
  • Conduct research as needed to understand specialized terminology and concepts.
  • Copyedit and perform quality control of all French-language content, including original texts drafted internally as well as translations produced both in-house and by external suppliers, by comparing them with the source texts to ensure the highest quality.
  • Collaborate closely with other translators and the Lead coordinator and translator to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
  • Act as an expert advisor to members of the communications team and internal clients.
  • Provide linguistic advice on language usage and field-specific vocabulary.
  • Support the team’s terminology work by helping enrich terminology databases and ensuring high-quality content.
  • Use technological tools such as memoQ and DeepL, while remaining adaptable to other tools as required.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in new and emerging technologies and a commitment to continuous learning.

Additional Information

  • This position is remote, with a work schedule from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET). The successful candidate must reside in Canada and be willing to travel occasionally to Ottawa.
  • As part of the hiring process, selected candidates will be required to take a translation test.
