Message from the President on disasters in Morocco and Libya

Dear all,

Over the past several days, our world has been shaken by natural disasters in Africa.

Late on Friday, Morocco was struck by a devastating earthquake that has left nearly 3,000 people dead and countless more missing.

On the weekend, Hurricane Daniel reached Libya, causing massive levels of destruction. In the port city of Derna, two burst dams caused catastrophic flooding and more than 10,000 people are now missing or presumed dead.

My heart goes out to those who have lost family, friends, and colleagues – and for those who are still waiting for news as the search continues. I will stand side by side with you as the true impact of the disaster becomes clear.

If you would like to support the recovery efforts, please consider donating to Red Cross Red Crescent.

Thank you,

Camille Awada
