Labour Day 2023: Message from the President

This year has been a pivotal one for the Canadian labour movement, as unions across the country – federally, regionally and locally – raised their voices to demand better treatment, respect for human rights and fair compensation for hundreds of thousands of workers.

CAPE stood – and will always stand – in solidarity with unions demanding safe working conditions, equitable benefits, and respect for their members. We are stronger together, and gains for one lay the foundation for improvements for all.

While we are proud of the advancements we made in collective bargaining this year, we know there is more work to be done.

That’s why, as we celebrate the wins and recognize the hard work that got us here, we are acknowledging the many battles left to fight to ensure the future of work is fair, adaptable and equitable for every employee.

On Labour Day, let’s take a moment to look back on how far we’ve come and then set our sights on where we want to go.

In solidarity,

Camille Awada
CAPE President
