Canada’s 29th Ministry (Cabinet) - CAPE’s Official Statement

Ottawa, November 22 - The Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE) warmly welcomes the new Cabinet as announced by the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau on November 20th, 2019.

We wish the entire cabinet well in their various roles and responsibilities and expect them to discharge their duties to the fullest extent of their abilities, while demonstrating a clear commitment to our members and to all other federal public service employees – the backbone of the Canadian government.

We also expect the new cabinet to ensure that federal public service employees have a healthy and safe workplace, that they enjoy fair benefits, and to do the maximum necessary to protect their labour and other constitutional rights.

Furthermore, we warmly welcome the new President of the Treasury Board – the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos – whom we look forward to working with, while we hope for continued leadership stability at the helm of the Treasury Board. As the Treasury Board welcomes its new president, we will reach out to continue pressing for lasting solutions to the beleaguered Phoenix pay system, to outstanding retro-pay due to hundreds of federal employees, and to unresolved health and safety issues in the workplace, as well as to get the assurance that federal retirees’ pension will remain fair and secure.

CAPE looks forward to working with the Government and all opposition parties to ensure that our members’ voices are heard.
