CAPE stands with Canadian postal workers, calls out government’s anti-worker actions

CAPE stands firmly in solidarity with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, who declared an immediate strike following the government’s call for radical cuts to Canada Post services, which will severely erode an institution many Canadians rely on. This announcement blindsided postal workers, who were given no indication that these massive changes were coming despite many communications channels being open.

This is just another example of this government attacking collective bargaining rights to bail out employers who refuse to negotiate, following the recent Air Canada back-to-work order.

This is also a clear sign that Mark Carney will take a chainsaw to public services instead of funding them properly. This government cuts taxes for the rich then blames public servants for the deficit. It plans to divert critical resources to bloat the military-industrial complex at the expense of programs and services ordinary Canadians depend on.

Canadians cannot allow another federal Liberal government to gut programs that improve our lives, as they did in 1995 when health care, housing, postsecondary education, and many other vital services were radically defunded.

CAPE stands behind CUPW members, and our union siblings across the labour movement, who are defending public services and workers’ rights on behalf of Canadians.

Check the CUPW website for picket line locations and how you can show support.

Together, we will show the government that workers are united and ready to fight for public services and defend our collective bargaining rights.
