The Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE) congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election victory yesterday. The prime minister made big promises during the campaign that Canadians will hold him to – and federal workers will be the ones to deliver.
CAPE looks forward to working together to repair the fractured relationship between the government and the public sector and ensure Canada’s federal workforce is respected, fairly treated, and fully prepared to deliver on the government’s priorities.
As the impacts of the Trump administration’s tariff war and other threats continue to destabilize the world, Canadians need a strong federal workforce that is well-equipped, well-staffed and fully able to support them through these crises.
To deliver on their campaign promises, the government must focus on guaranteeing a robust federal workforce by:
- Reversing all federal public service cuts and invest in the programs and services that will get ordinary Canadians through this crisis
- Ensuring that any increase in the use of artificial intelligence to be done responsibly to support federal workers – not replace them with unproven technologies
- Cutting the reliance on outside contractors and putting the work back in the hands of accountable public sector employees
- Defending the civil rights of all federal workers regardless of their background
As we look ahead to the immediate and long-term challenges facing our country, CAPE and its members are ready to work closely with the new federal government in all efforts to protect Canada’s economy, sovereignty and citizens.
