Elections 2020 - Call for Volunteer: Elections and Resolutions Committee

I.  Elections Context

This year, members of the Canadian Association of Professional Employees will be called upon to make important decisions regarding their union. Not only will they have the opportunity to review and vote on CAPE affairs, including the annual budget, audited financial statements and appointed auditors, they will also need to choose their next National Executive Committee (NEC) for 2021-2023.

The NEC is made up of elected members and oversees several sub-committees made up of members who are interested in the life and future of the union.

In 2020, all the positions on the NEC are up for renewal, which includes the presidency, vice presidencies and all the director positions. More detailed information will be provided in the coming months.

CAPE elections follow a stringent process entirely managed by the Elections and Resolutions Committee (ERC).  The ERC is one of the most important committees that as oversight committee within the Association.

II.  Volunteer today!

According to CAPE’s constitution, the ERC must be renewed every year. The Association is now looking for volunteers to oversee the 2020 elections.

CAPE is hoping that you, the members, will volunteer to be part of the ERC. All interested members have until March 2, 2020 to submit their candidacy.

I. How to Apply

Members wishing to join the committee may:

  1. Complete the registration form below; or,
  2. Send an email response with the subject line [Elections and Resolutions Committee] at info@acep-cape.ca along with the reasons you wish to be considered as a committee member.

II. Committee Meetings

The committee will determine the frequency of the meetings that will be held at CAPE’s national headquarters in Ottawa. Members who join us in person will be served a light lunch or dinner. Taxi and parking expenses will be covered by the Association. Time away from work, if necessary, will also be covered.

Regional members will be able to join in by teleconference or videoconference.

You can find further details about the role and responsibilities of the ERC in CAPE’s constitution and bylaws on the CAPE website – in particular, Bylaw #3, and article 15 of the constitution will help you familiarize yourself with the work of the ERC.

IV. Important Restrictions

To maintain and protect the absolute neutrality of to committee, members of the ERC cannot be or become a member of the NEC while sitting on this committee, nor can they second the nomination of NEC candidates, volunteer to serve as scrutineer for candidates, or support candidates in any manner whatsoever.

In addition, members of the committee shall not publicly divulge their opinion on a resolution. However, ERC members do retain their overall right to vote.
