In recent weeks, CAPE has been meeting with members of the Translation Bureau’s leadership team to discuss artificial intelligence (AI). CAPE has been particularly interested in understanding their intentions around translation technology.

This week we welcome the 2019 edition of the Ottawa Pride Week, 33 years after Ottawa held its first parade in 1986, and 50 years after Canada decriminalized homosexuality when it passed Bill C-150 in 1969. Thanks to the efforts made by the pride movement, public opinion has dramatically shifted in support of the LGBTQ2+ rights in Canada.

The Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE) announced today that it had accepted Treasury Board Secretariat’s offer presented Friday May 3 to compensate federal employees for damages caused by the Phoenix Pay System. The decision was made following a consultation with CAPE’s National Executive Committee and its membership base.

This agreement contains three tiers of damages.

The 2019 spring floods have been especially devastating for thousands of people and families. As you all know, several towns and cities in New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec have declared a state of emergency to obtain the resources they need to deal with the situation. The National Capital Region, which is home to many federal government workers, has been particularly hard hit.

We all share a responsibility to protect and care for our environment. Increasing carbon emissions and pollution are some of the most critical issues we are grappling with and must face with a greater sense of urgency. We owe it to ourselves, to future generations and to other species we share this world with.

This year’s federal budget was introduced as the “middle class” budget and indeed, the Government did provide incentive and monies to “hard-working Canadians.” There were not many surprises: the budget aligns with the Government’s values and commitment to supporting the middle class and to creating opportunities for all Canadians to join it, as well as to enjoy the benefits of the common wealth.

When you look at where we were a few decades ago, the Canadian federal government has made great strides when it comes to ensuring more women are employed in the federal public service.
