Communications Advisory Committee's Terms of Reference

BACKGROUND

CAPE’s Communications, public affairs and government relations team is responsible for member and stakeholder engagement, as well as for advocacy, campaigns, public affairs, and knowledge and reputation management. For the team to best serve CAPE’s members and the association, it needs to be able to consult with member representatives to develop strategies, tactics and products that are best aligned with members’ needs and wants, and that can help position the association as one of the most effective and influential public service labour unions in Canada.

MANDATE

The Communications Advisory Committee will act as consultative group to help the communications team identify communications gaps, needs and opportunities. The Advisory Committee will be expected to offer useful information, give feedback, offer ideas and make recommendations.

OBJECTIVES

The Communications Advisory Committee should create opportunities for participating members to:

1. Brainstorm, advise and deliver recommendations;
2. Participate in specific projects; and
3. Become communications ambassadors and champions across CAPE’s membership.


SUB COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

The NEC is responsible for approving the membership of this Committee. Members are selected based on their interest, relevance of their experience, and ability to contribute to the committee. As much as possible, there should be at least one member from the EC/LOP/OPBO community, and at least one member from the TR community.

The Director of Communications will assume the role of committee chair.

MEETINGS

The Advisory Committee may meet once a month, or as required. As a general rule, the meetings shall be held outside working hours at CAPE headquarters in Ottawa. Participation can be done remotely.


ACTIVITY REPORTING

Following a meeting of the Communication’s Advisory Committee, the Director of Communications shall report on its activities at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
