As CAPE’s political season approaches, we are all looking forward to a robust battle of ideas. As members, you’ll be invited to participate in our union’s democratic process. Soon, you’ll have an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the candidates and their position. For their part, candidates will have an opportunity to put forward their vision for our organization, engage in a respectful and fact-based debate and solicit your vote.
That’s how union democracy works. Those who run for office ought to do so with an earnest desire to work on behalf of the membership. When union politics are at their best, they are imbued with mutual respect and they engage the membership with a positive vision.
As disheartening as it is to admit, union politics don’t always unfold this way. After much reflection, President Emmanuelle Tremblay has made a difficult decision – a decision she hopes will help steer CAPE back towards the core union values of mutual respect and solidarity.
