No place for hate: condolences for the victims of Christchurch

March 19, 2019

On behalf of the Association and the entire membership, I would like to express our deepest and sincere condolences to the families and friends of the 50 victims that were killed during the terrorist attacks that took place in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15, 2019.  We also hope those injured will recover quickly and receive the support they need. These tragic incidents hit close to home, reminding us of the Quebec mosque shooting on January 29, 2017.

The alarming rise of far-right extremism and hatred has no place in civil society and we condemn the heinous acts perpetrated against Muslims and all forms of racism, bigotry, and Islamophobia.

At CAPE, we believe everyone should have the right to practice their religion without fear of discrimination or violence.

We therefore call on our leaders and our members to continue actively advocating for religious freedom and a safe and harassment-free society and workplace.
