The Canadian Association of Professional Employees
Thanks Former Chief Statistician Munir A. Sheikh
July 22, 2010
The Canadian Association of Professional Employees would like to recognize the enormous sacrifice of Dr. Sheikh, his integrity and professionalism. Dr. Sheikh resigned from his position as Chief Statistician of Statistics Canada because he disagrees on professional grounds with the Conservative government’s decision to eliminate the mandatory long census form.
CAPE members cannot speak out against the government’s decision, for fear of repercussions from the employer. Mr. Sheikh voiced the concerns and objections of CAPE members in all government departments including Statistics Canada.
It will be up to CAPE and Canadians across the country to continue to try to convince the Conservative government to reinstate the census as a compulsory civic duty.
Thank you, Mr. Sheikh
