Michèle Demers

February 11, 2009

CAPE lost a dear friend and strong ally yesterday. Michèle Demers, President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, passed away yesterday.

Michèle Demers became President of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada on January 1, 2005.

Michèle was active in the union for over twenty-five years. In recent years, Michèle has championed many issues including women rights, collective bargaining, science funding for the public good, union-management consultation, public service renewal and opposing contracting out. A passionate believer in the union movement, Michèle strongly believed that the rights and interests of employees should be firmly upheld and vigorously promoted.

Michèle’s passion, commitment and leadership will be missed. Our thoughts are with Michèle’s family and with our colleagues at PIPSC.

I wish to offer, in my name and on behalf of the National Executive Committee, members and staff of CAPE, my condolences to her family, her many friends and to our colleagues at PIPSC.
