CAPE’s Analysis of the C.D. Howe Institute Report

February 18, 2010 CAPE feels it is its duty and responsibility to enter into the debate and to attempt to set the record straight regarding the issues raised in the C.D. Howe Institute report entitled “Supersized Superannuation: The Startling Fair Value Cost of Federal Government Pensions”. It is CAPE’s opinion that the C.D. Howe Institute’s study is misleading, ignores important facts and is based on incorrect premises as to the continued existence of the plan. We have prepared an analysis, entitled A Balanced Perspective on Fair-Value Pension Accounting and today CAPE’s President, Claude Poirier, will be sending a copy of this analysis and a letter to all Members of Parliament and Senators making clear our view of the C.D. Howe Institute’s report.
