By-Laws Committee - Recommended Amendments to the By-Laws
WHEREAS it has not been possible to constitute the Elections Committee in accordance with the deadline set in the Constitution, which means in turn it would be impossible for the Committee to execute its mandate according to the schedule set in the By-Laws;
WHEREAS at its meeting on May 3rd, 2004 the Elections Committee concluded that it would be impossible to conduct elections for positions on the National Executive Committee in accordance with the By-Laws as presently worded;
WHEREAS is it in the general interest of the Association that the necessary measures be taken to allow for elections to be called as soon as possible;
IN CONSEQUENCE the By-Laws Committee recommends, following the report from the Elections Committee, that the following By-Law be adopted:
“Special elections schedule for the 2004 election
R3.23 For the election called and held in 2004, the following temporary amendments are made to the Association’s By-Laws:
- in B3.3 “no later than April 15” is replaced with “no later than May 25”;
- in B3.7 “no later than June 15” is replaced with “no later than July 26”;
- in B3.7 “no later than June 30” is replaced with “no later than August 10”.
R.3.24 Paragraphs 3.23 and 3.24 will be automatically repealed on 1 January 2005.”
It is further recommended that the By-Laws Committee be tasked with reviewing, in consultation with the Elections Committee, the elections schedule issue to assess if permanent amendments should be made.
