Condolences on the passing of Paul Dewar

February 07, 2019

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Paul Dewar, former center MP for the New Democratic Party.  We extend our condolences to the Dewar family as well as friends and former colleagues.

A Member of Parliament from 2008-2011, Paul made quite an impression on Parliament Hill, earning the respect of his fellow party members as well as members of the opposition.

As Foreign Affairs Critic, Paul Dewar was an advocate for human rights; speaking out against anti-LGBT legislation in Uganda, advocating for human rights in Saudi Arabia and a vocal critic of the crisis in Darfur, Sudan.

Paul Dewar was also an ally of the federal public service, who denounced measures to muzzle scientists during the Harper administration.  One of the few voices who stood up for our members and other public servants.

His legacy will inspire future generations to stand up for just causes and make a difference in people’s lives.
