Young Members Committee
This committee’s mandate is to provide advice and recommendations to the National Executive Committee on matters related to young members of the Association; provide a forum for sharing ideas and for discussing issues that pertain to young members; to improve communication between young members; and to increase young members’ participation and awareness in the activities of the Association.

We are pleased to announce our unanimous support of the proposed option for the progressive dues structure. The proposed option would change CAPE’s dues structure from the current flat fees structure to a flat percentage of membership salaries. We urge all CAPE members to vote YES to this important policy proposal for two reasons.
Summary of David MacDonald's presentation: precarious employment in the public service

David MacDonald, Senior Researcher at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, recently spoke to an audience of young workers and public servants at CAPE national headquarters about temporary employment in the public sector, outsourcing and other trends. David began by noting that young workers in all sectors across Canada are much more likely to be hired as temporary employees than the general population.

Close the generation gap by rising standards rather than chasing bottom
In a recent Ottawa Citizen article, young and old civil servants are said to be having a generational battle over Treasury Board President Tony Clement’s proposed changes to the sick leave policy. However, like Hamlet without the Prince of Denmark, the voices of actual young civil servants are conspicuously missing from the piece.
