TR Update – Pay Equity
October 13, 2004
As you are already aware, CAPE has been expressing in no uncertain terms to Translation Bureau management, since last spring, its members’ dissatisfaction with the increase of the production levels(2.67). In view of the Bureau’s refusal to reconsider its decision during the summer, we advised the Bureau that we would seek redress by legal means.
All these discussions now appear to have been successful because, some two weeks ago, senior management asked us to suspend any redress process and to resume discussions in order to swiftly work out tangible solutions that, this time, would prove satisfactory to both parties. Thus, intensive meetings are already on-going on a weekly basis, and it is hoped that management has now recognized that the Translation Bureau’s efficiency and viability depend first and foremost on its professionals and the services they provide.
These discussions notwithstanding, CAPE is pursuing preparatory work for the submission of a complaint to the Human Rights Commission with respect to the implementation of the pay equity settlement, which has been the subject of previous updates.
