Production Goals/Translators - Follow-up

August 9, 2004

On June 5th, Operations representatives on the Translation Bureau Local once again met with management as part of the labour-management consultations to discuss the performance objectives for 2004-2005, initiated in April.

In light of the different scenarios put forth by the parties, we reiterated our grievances and apprehensions. It is now up to the Translation Bureau, who remains the decision-making body, to further examine the matter and return with its decision. However, we can’t expect major changes from this exercise.

The objectives given to you last April 1st, the 2.67 in particular, remain unchanged. The Bureau also insists on maintaining objectives expressed in days. We repeat the fact that you must contest this decision by presenting a grievance if you feel they are being unreasonable or if your acquired rights (vacation, sick leaves, compensatory leaves, etc.) are not respected. We must keep in mind that this year’s objective exceeds the “historical” objective mentioned during meetings with management. Furthermore, you should ask your Client Services Advisor to identify the targeted time (specifically in your case) based on your level and step, especially since, given the lack of detailed or precise reports, it is impossible to say if you’re in line with your objectives.
