The Deadline Performance Report – Translation Bureau
January 18, 2006
In contrast to the information some managers seem to be purveying, CAPE did not and still does not require that the Bureau distribute deadline performance reports to employees, unless requested to do so.
Rather, CAPE has repeatedly indicated to the employer that in its view, these reports constitute an internal management tool that certainly does not enable the employer to assess whether or not an employee has met his or her deadlines. Not only has the Bureau’s management information system never been able to supply error-free data, but the report in question fails to indicate at what point the delay occurred that caused the deadline to be missed—and the delay may have been utterly beyond the control of the translator. The report therefore cannot be considered valid by CAPE as a means of assessing its members’ performance.
