TR Bargaining – August 15 and 16 Meetings with the Employer

September 5, 2007

CAPE’s TR bargaining team met with representatives of the employer’s bargaining team on August 15 and August 16. Because the employer and CAPE have agreed again in this round to use interest based bargaining at the TR table the parties did not exchange proposals: instead, they put together a set of problems brought to the table by the bargaining agent and other problems brought to the table by the employer. These problems will be examined and discussed over the next few months by the participants in order to explore solutions viable for both employer and employees.

The CAPE TR bargaining team met on the two preceding days, August 13 and 14. in order to finalize the choice of problems, to complete their definitions, to review research information and priorities. For this round, the list of problems is exceptionally long, covering a number of issues that have not been raised at the TR table in the past.

The parties are meeting again on November 6, 7 and 8. They have agreed to schedule as many dates for negotiation before the end of the calendar year as possible. Tentative dates have been set and will be confirmed shortly. In the interim, both the employer’s team and CAPE’s team will be collecting information and reviewing data related to the first half dozen problems that they have agreed to examine at the table.
