TR Bargaining – Meetings with the Employer in January and February

March 4, 2008

Bargaining resumed on January 29th, 30th and 31st and on February 12th, 13th and 14th.

Progress is difficult to measure as many issues have been placed on hold with more information being gathered by the employer. When the parties last met, it was decided that the next bargaining block would be dedicated to issues specific to the Parliamentary Sector. A joint sub-committee was struck to study an important issue for conference interpreters. One of the benefits of interest-based bargaining is that it allows for sub-committees to be created to study issues in depth and to make recommendations to the Table. The sub-committees act as joint fact finding working groups. They report back to the table with information that allows the parties to thoroughly review issues rather than discount problems as too challenging. Parties will meet again on March 18th, 19th and 20th.
