EC Classification Application Guidelines

May 14, 2008

CAPE has asked the Canada Public Service Agency (CPSA) to make public the EC Classification Application Guidelines for some time now. The CPSA posted an electronic version on its web site last week. The purpose of the guidelines is to illustrate with examples the different degrees of the nine elements of the EC Classification Standard. In contrast to the ES and SI standards, the EC standard does not include benchmark position descriptions (BMPDs) to illustrate the application of the standard. The guidelines are meant to play a similar role to the BMPDs. The guidelines make the classification process a little less abstract and will provide ES and SI members of CAPE an opportunity to review their work descriptions and their EC classification more carefully once they receive their Advance Personal Notification.
