EC Collective Bargaining Update

May 18, 2006

The EC Collective Bargaining Committee is continuing its work and is preparing a list of demands to present to the bargaining table on behalf of the EC group on June 20th.

The committee has examined the information received from the collective bargaining survey with the goal of establishing the priorities of the negotiating team. The committee has also discussed individual demands that have been received electronically, improvements to the collective agreement suggested by CAPE Labour Relations Officers, improvements to other collective agreements that have been recently negotiated in the federal public service and elsewhere, as well as proposals made by members of the Committee. A list of demands has been prepared that will be presented at the bargaining table.

It is important to note that the Committee is concerned about ongoing delays in preparing the EC classification standard. The completion of the standard is required in order to negotiate the salary scales that will correspond with the new EC classification standard. Informally, CAPE has already reminded the employer that the parties must arrive at the table ready to negotiate. CAPE is hoping to find a solution that will be in the best interest of our members, and that will be acceptable to the employer, without interfering with the preparation of the new classification standard. The Negotiating Team wants a fair Collective Agreement, and also a Classification Standard that works well.
