EC Bargaining – November 20th and 21st Meetings with the Employer

November 26, 2007

CAPE’s EC bargaining team met on Monday November 19th to prepare for the three-day bargaining session with the Employer. On Tuesday morning, the Treasury Board Negotiator presented his response to each of our proposals, and we responded to theirs in the afternoon.

Proposals which are editorial in nature and those articles where neither party had proposals were signed off on the 21st. Both parties agreed that the more contentious proposals should be left for discussion at a later date. Therefore, the parties chose to discuss the proposals where there was a strong likelihood of reaching an agreement between the parties. A lot of progress was made. Because further research was needed on several of these issues, the parties agreed to forego the third day meeting. The EC Bargaining Team chose to meet on the third day (November 22nd).

The parties were scheduled tentatively to meet on December 17, 18 and 19 and January 22, 23 and 24. Because of the research involved in order to respond to the proposals discussed this week, the parties agreed to meet at a later date. Bargaining will resume on February 5th, 6th and 7th, March 25th and 26th, and April 22, 23 and 24.
