EC Classification Reform - Advice to Members

November 16, 2006

Currently, your department or agency is preparing EC work descriptions for the conversion exercise that will be completed some time in 2008 with the negotiation of EC pay scales.

You and your ES and SI colleagues may already be involved with reviewing and writing work descriptions for the conversion. In any event, you will receive a copy of your new EC work description probably no later than early 2007 for the Advanced Personal Notification or APN. You will be asked at that time to comment on the content of the work description.

You will find herewith included the first part of a two-part document, EC Classification Reform - CAPE's Perspective, the purpose of which is to provide CAPE’s ES and SI members with advice on writing EC work descriptions. The eleven-page document that accompanies this memo gives general information and advice regarding the work description writing process.

A second document will be released prior to the APN with detailed advice on how to approach writing or reviewing the nine elements that will appear in your work description.

Please inform your colleagues of the availability of the document. If you have questions regarding your rights, don’t hesitate to call your Labour Relations Officer.
